Romer Young Gallery welcomes KunstCapades to the 2018 RYG Artist in Residence. This year's unique residency, PICTURES SHOW, will have an opening reception on Saturday, July 28th from 12-3pm. KunstCapades is an art-themed variety show for the radio (Podcasts app and SoundCloud), hosted by Robyn Carliss, Joshua Pieper & Tim Sullivan. The opening reception will allow the public in on the recording process and include artwork and ephemera related to the show. Throughout the residency the space will host two additional live shows on August 11th and August 25th; both shows start at 4:30pm. The gallery will have open hours to the public on Fridays & Saturdays from 12-6pm through September 1st.
Each show features art historical bartending, an interview, rollicking reports on art crimes, and hot tips about art opportunities and online auctions. Guests are artists, curators, gallerists, museum workers, writers, and art educators and advocates - all of whom are brave enough to board a gondola up to the collective’s secret lair, an alpine-tropical bar called Altitide, for conversation and cocktails.
During PICTURES SHOW, Romer Young Gallery will house an elaborate set adapted from the undisclosed, altitudinous habitat where KunstCapades usually takes place. Gallery visitors are invited to enjoy a series of rare live recordings and custom cocktail offerings. Pieper, Sullivan, and Carliss will also show individual works related to the concept and content of KunstCapades, which is moored by appropriation, comedy, antique media tactics, and the digestion of history in drink form.
KunstCapades has been scaling airwaves since 2014, and will record its 80th episode while in residency at Romer Young Gallery. Past guests include Hrag Vartanian and Veken Gueyikian (editor-in-chief and publisher, Hyperallergic), Deborah Rappaport (co-founder, Minnesota Street Project), V. Vale (publisher, RE/Search), art advisor Stefan Simchowitz, curators Diego Villalobos and Zoë Taleporos, and artists Taravat Talepasand, Jennifer Locke, Marcela Pardo Ariza, Muzae Sesay, and Koak.
